Dallas Morning News column

Well i'm glad a journalist could admit she was wrong. I take that as an apology to the victim for jumping to conclussions about her. I have heard from professionals in the PR world that I've been shadowing from a class that if a journalist gets a story wrong, they won't appologize. I sitll believe that is right but it's probably because they are so busy they don't have time to go back and check on the story.

I believe this correction was able to get made because while the writer may have been writing informative stories for the paper, she was a columnist and had more freedom over what she could write. People do read her stuff for her opinions - so her writing this, I think, got more coverage then if it had been a normal reporter.

Nonetheless - go her! I'm glad she can tell everyone she jumped to conclusions and was wrong.

Ads reveal too much

I'm glad we got to watch ads in class two weeks ago. I hope everyone noticed how ridiculous some ads are. I still don't think some guys in our class realize that there is something wrong with that AXE ad. I do understand that is what men want to see, but they just want to see it. They are not going to associate it with how well a product works. Now that I am living with my boyfriend I have talked to him about things like this and I notice more that men just want to see something that looks nice. This is for reporters, comercials and cheerleaders on the sidelines. I guess it's just weird to me they don't care as much about content as they do appearance.

Chapter 12

While reading chapter 12 I couldn't help but remember my high school senior government class and talking about the court case that defined pornography. We discussed the legal sides more than this book but I enjoy this chapter more than listening to the 'legal aspects' in a government class.

I found this chapter interesting as it descriped many ways fashion advertising objectifies women and turns them to objects to sell clothes. The different ways it stereotpyes women, Hierarchy, Objectification and submission was interesting because I never thought of it like that before. I saw the ad that is figure 12.1 differently then the text described it. I see just a girl sitting on the floor of a car. Since her clothes are center of the picture - I thought the picture did a good job of showing the bebe clothing. It could have been made much more 'sexier' having her in a slighty altered pose than she is in.
